As a Mechanical Engineering Intern, you will help design, build, and test our launch system! As part of the structural mechanical engineering team, you’ll work on the conceptual, preliminary, and detailed design, analysis, fabrication, and testing of our launch system's primary and secondary structures.
We are looking for Interns to join us in Q1 of 2024 and these opportunities will be onsite.

How you'll help us achieve our mission

  • Design, analysis, manufacture, and test of structural components and assemblies for our current and future launch vehicles, ground launcher, and test group
  • Work with team members to define load conditions and requirements for specific assemblies and components.
  • Generate detailed designs and conduct static & dynamic analysis as well as qualification and acceptance testing of hardware
  • Work closely with team and vendors to ensure components are produced within required specifications.
  • Generate test plans, and coordinate component/assembly testing and documentation to ensure components function as designed.
  • Design and operate test equipment and stands to qualify ground and vehicle structures and fluid systems.

Why We Value You

  • Working toward an MS, BS, or have equivalent experience in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
  • Hands-on experience in solid modeling/drafting of mechanical parts (e.g. structures, actuator mechanisms, fluid / or hydraulic systems).
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced, self-driven entrepreneurial workplace.
  • Comfort applying classical analysis methods to size structural components and assemblies
  • Familiarity with basic manufacturing processes such as conventional machining, sheet metal fabrication, welding, etc.
  • Experience with industry-standard CAD software (e.g. SolidWorks, Siemens NX, Catia, etc.)

Desired Multipliers

  • Student engineering team project experience (e.g. Formula SAE, Rocketry, AIAA design build fly, Robotics, etc.)
  • Experience with Finite Element Analysis

San Francisco Bay Area base salary: $30-$40 an hour
ITAR Requirements: This position requires compliance with U.S. Government space technology trade restrictions, specifically the International Trafficking in Arms Regulations (ITAR), Export Administration Regulations (EAR) and additional regulations governing satellite, launch vehicle, missile, and other related technologies. All jobs restricted by these regulations will be contingent upon the applicant’s status as a documented U.S. Person or their ability to receive a trade license from the cognizant government agency; in addition to any required company background checks and in compliance with applicable U.S. and California laws. Similarly, positions requiring the ability to work on government contracts or a security clearance are also contingent upon the applicants ability to receive the appropriate clearance and be allowed to work on U.S. government contracts.
