Role Summary

The PCB HW Engineer works with external vendors providing PCB layout, fabrication and assembly services to deliver HW boards to Renesas internal customers. The engineer contributes to definition and maintenance of procedures, workflow and quality standards between Renesas stakeholders and external vendors.

The understanding of electrical schematic data and basic electronic circuits is essential for the role. The engineer must understand the board specification and ensure correct implementation of the design. The knowledge and understanding of the differences to PCB technologies is equally important; the engineer must ensure that the design is created based on the requirements and it is fit for the desired application.

The engineer will be part of a cross-site HW Group. Teamwork, communication and planning skills are essential for the success in the role.

Key Skills

Required:

  • Manage relationship between Renesas and external vendors providing:

  • PCB design services using on-site or off-site contractors.

  • PCB manufacturing, PCB assembly services or combined.

  • Turnkey services, combining layout services with manufacturing.

  • Contribute to the definition and maintenance of the outsourcing processes & internal documentation in collaboration with other stakeholders.

  • Flexibility & ability to travel to vendor sites for meetings (regular or ad-hoc-investigations).

  • Provides training to both Renesas stakeholders and vendor personnel.

  • Contributes to decision making on the project allocation by providing vendor workload data, enabling efficient load balancing, performs project management tasks to ensure that the vendors can deliver on time and with proper quality.

  • Receives work packages from Renesas stakeholders, discusses technical requirements and timeline, checks quality, documentation and adherence to guidelines. Prepares work packages to vendors. Receives vendor output from finished jobs, checks quality according to specified standards, post-processes and archives jobs.

  • Pro-actively monitors vendor progress, takes immediate action if timeline is jeopardized and performs all necessary steps to mitigate the risk.

  • Arranges and mediates regular layout or other technical reviews between internal customers and external vendors.

  • Arranges lessons learned and conducts postmortems on quality issues.

  • Technical degree with at least 3 years of work-experience, preferably in a consumer electronic industry

  • Basic knowledge of electronic circuit design, PCB manufacture and assembly processes

  • Experience in CAD programs such as Mentor Xpedition, Altium

  • Solid project management skills

  • Goals-oriented and able to deliver on-time results under tight schedules

  • Ability to perform effectively in a demanding environment with changing workloads and deadlines

  • Concise and precise communication with internal customer and supplier

  • Ability to work with engineers from other disciplines

  • Flexible to undertake occasional international travel

  • Excellent command of verbal and written English

Qualification:

  • University degree in Electronics Engineering or a related discipline or similar work experience.
