Description

The Director of DevOps for Near is a leadership role and oversees all activities related to our Engineering Ops / Infrastructure / Security needs. Duties include overseeing the day-to-day activities and supporting the business’s data centers, software, and deployments of applications and platforms that service the entire business. It is a demanding role that requires the candidate to be capable of working with cross-functional teams in a hands-on manner, diagnosing complex issues on the various platforms, suggesting improvements in processes or tools used, and playing a leading role in software, platform, application, and architectural evolution.

The role demands strong hands-on experience and the candidate would have served the business’s sites, software, and applications in a production and support capacity. Must demonstrate superior troubleshooting skills and have extensive knowledge of monitoring and alerting mechanisms. You will also manage a DevOps/SRE team globally.

This will be a work-from-office role, based in our state-of-the-art office in Koramangala, Bangalore.

Responsibilities

• Oversees and guides all activities of the DevOps team.
• Leads the design, build, and operational management of highly secure and scalable sites/products for the business.
• Implement infrastructure best practices, build tools, and deploy impeccable sites/software.
• Design and build infrastructure for sites/software, ensuring the highest levels of security and responding swiftly to new and emerging vulnerabilities and security threats.
• Conduct quarterly/half-yearly tests (VAPT), audits, coverage checks and update Engineering leadership, and plan for progress with a roadmap(if required).
• Creating tools/processes that amplify the productivity of DevOps/SRE/Engineers. E.g. code generators and schema repositories for scalable deployment.
• Build, configure, and maintain the frameworks, tools, and systems that enable optimal performance of the business’s sites/software.
• Work hand-in-hand with the frontend and backend engineering teams in all technical operations to reduce or eliminate any repetitive or manual tasks.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams in creating solution designs, capacity planning, and performance optimization.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electronics, or another relevant field.
• Overall 12-14 years of Technology experience out of which 3-4 years in DevOps Manager or Leadership role in a fast-paced and fast-evolving environment.
• Strong hands-on experience on Linux, with knowledge of AWS required (GCP or Azure optional).
• Must demonstrate experience in writing automation scripts with Python, Shell, or Ruby.
• Knowledge of administering configuration tools (Ansible, Terraform), and APM tools (New Relic).
• Experience working with orchestration platforms like ECS or Nomad or Kubernetes (k8s)
• Experience working with large-scale, low-latency systems is a plus.
• Experience working with Big Data related technologies – EMR, Apache Spark, AWS Redshift, and Apache Kafka is a plus.
