About the role

Are you ready to pioneer a groundbreaking role within a cutting-edge indoor vertical farm? Plenty is looking for our first-ever Site Controller to join our dynamic Finance team. In this newly created position, you will play a pivotal role as the finance leader for the most innovative and highest yielding indoor farm operation today! You will be responsible for establishing and implementing financial controls, processes, and strategies to ensure operational excellence. Expect to partner closely with the site General Manager to optimize the farm’s output to maximize yield, revenue, and cash generation while managing a complex growing operation and challenging tradeoffs with operating and capital expense. This leader will thrive in ambiguous business situations while closely stewarding the assets of the Company in accordance with the highest standards of controllership.

What you'll do

  • Financial Planning and Analysis:
    • Collaborate with the Compton Farm (the “Farm”) management team to develop and monitor the annual budget
    • Conduct regular financial analysis to identify variances, trends, and opportunities for cost optimization
    • Prepare accurate and timely financial reports, forecasts, and performance metrics for management review
    • Provide financial insights and recommendations to support business decision-making
  • Cost Accounting and Inventory Management:
    • Oversee cost accounting for the Farm, ensuring accurate tracking and reporting of manufacturing costs, including material, labor, and overhead
    • Develop and maintain a comprehensive system for inventory management, including periodic physical counts and reconciliations
    • Analyze inventory levels, variances, and production efficiencies to identify areas for improvement and cost reduction
  • Financial Reporting and Compliance:
    • Ensure compliance with accounting principles, standards, and legal requirements, including GAAP and applicable tax regulations
    • Prepare and review financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements
    • Coordinate with external auditors for annual audits and assist in the implementation of audit recommendations.
    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records, ledgers, and documentation
  • Internal Controls and Process Improvement:
    • Establish and maintain robust internal control procedures to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with policies
    • Continuously assess and enhance financial and operational processes to drive efficiency, accuracy, and scalability
    • Identify areas of risk and develop strategies to mitigate financial and operational vulnerabilities
    • Implement and monitor effective controls for the purchase, receipt, and disbursement of materials and services
  • Team Leadership and Collaboration:
    • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including Farm operations, procurement, and sales, to drive financial goals and objectives
    • Provide financial guidance and support to managers in Farm Operations, assisting them in understanding and managing their budgets effectively

What you'll bring to the table

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (CPA preferred) and 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing or production environment; experience with operational aspects of accounting and tax reporting
  • Proven experience as a Financial Controller or similar role, preferably within a manufacturing environment
  • In-depth knowledge of accounting principles, financial analysis, and cost accounting in a manufacturing context
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex financial data and provide strategic insights
  • Deep understanding of internal controls and compliance requirements
  • Proficient in financial software and ERP systems; experience with Netsuite and Workday Adaptive is a plus
  • Advanced proficiency in gSuite and Microsoft Office applications
  • Leadership skills and ability to influence, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Detail-oriented with exceptional organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
  • A bias for action - you exemplify a propensity to take initiative

Plenty’s target compensation range for this role is $176,400 - $194,000 for this location. Actual compensation is commensurate with experience and alignment with role requirements.
